Botched surgeries can lead to significant brain injuries

While many brain injuries are the result of specific events that are out of most people’s control — such as car accidents — some of them also spring from mistakes made during surgery. These mistakes, which could come about because of negligence on the part of the doctor, could have a lasting impact in a person’s life.

Each case is different, of course, but there are a few big mistakes that can be made. It is important to know about each type of mistake to be better aware of what should have been done and what legal options there are when a documented mistake brings about these injuries.

For example, a mistake could be made with the anesthesia. The wrong amount could be administered to patients. If their medical history indicates that they are allergic to some types and these are used anyway, the allergic response could also cause an injury.

Another reason for injury could be if the surgery is done in the wrong place. A doctor could be asked to fix a brain injury from a car accident, for instance, but doing the surgery on the wrong part of the brain could both fail to correct the problem and cause more injuries that are completely unnecessary. This just compounds the issues that patients are already having and the impact of their injuries.
