5 apps for workplace safety

No matter where you work, you face risks of injuries and illnesses. Every workplace, from an office to a construction site, contains certain hazards. This is why workplace safety is so essential for everyone to prioritize.

While your employer is mostly responsible for keeping you and your surroundings safe, you can take your own actions, too. One way to enhance your workplace safety is to download certain mobile apps. There are plenty of apps available full of preventative tips and informative details. Here are some you should consider downloading.

1. First Aid

You are likely aware of the American Red Cross as an organization that works to improve workplace safety. One way they do this is through their First Aid app. This app contains step-by-step procedures that address workplace accidents, health issues and serious injuries. It is free and available in English and Spanish.

2. Ergonomics

Many workplace injuries are due to repetitive motions, bad posture, poor ergonomics and overexertion. The Ergonomics app provides you with various stretching exercises you can do at your workplace. This app also includes equipment advice, reminders to take breaks and original illustrations. It is available for 99 cents from iTunes and Google Play

3. Ladder Safety

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health offers an app dedicated to preventing ladder accidents. Improper use of ladders can lead to various health and injury hazards. This app helps workers place a ladder in the optimal position with sound and visual signals. The app is 508 compliant and free to download.

4. Chemical Hazards Pocket Guide

Many occupations include chemical hazards. If you come into regular contact with or face exposure to harmful chemicals, this app will come in handy. It explains each chemical and its risks. You can get it for $7.99 on iTunes.

5. Safety Compass

This app relies on augmented reality technology to provide users with warnings of hazardous conditions. You can detect workplace hazards with the GPS system and camera in your phone. This app is free to download.
